Mac Dowell Club Concert Pulled Out All the Stops

March 1, 2010 | 0 comments

MacDowell Club members Suzanne Pajunen, organ, and Ana de la Cuesta Gerlach, flute,

were just two of the artists appearing on the Club's annual organ concert Sunday afternoon, the 21st of February, 2010, in the glorious ambience and acoustics of the St. Joseph Center Chapel at 1501 South Layton Boulevard in Milwaukee.

The program was designed by S. Marion Verhaalen, pianist/organist/composer and member of the Club's Board of Directors. It opened with (former member) organist/composer Dennis Janzer - now of Memphis, TN - performing a work by

S. Theophane Hytrek, followed several of his own compositions. Two included the Milwaukee Jewish Community Chorale directed by the MacDowell Club's president-elect, Enid Bootzin Berkovits.

Other member organists performing were Wallace McClain Cheatham (Milwaukee); Mariann Landa (Wauwatosa); and Sheri Masiakowski (Greendale). The latter was assisted by Club member Gail Hodkiewicz, clarinet, and Kevin Erickson, trumpet, the Director of Bands at Kettle Moraine High School in Wales.
