Christmas Concert Celebrates 250 Years of George Frideric Handel at DSHA
MILWAUKEE, November 23, 2009—Join the fine arts department of Divine Savior Holy Angels High School (DSHA), 4257 N. 100th St., in celebrating the holiday spirit as they present a Christmas Concert on December 17th, 2009 at 7 p.m.
Students will perform music from Handel’s Messiah and other compositions inspired by the memory of composer George Frideric Handel, who passed away 250 years ago. Among the most popular works in Western choral literature, the Messiah is a classical work traditionally performed during the Advent season and is based on the life of Jesus.
In addition to Handel’s works, other composers of the Baroque period will be featured including Arcangleo Corelli and Johann Pachelbel. The performance is free and open to the public. For more information please call 414-466-3706.
Another sign of the season, DSHA choirs are participating in the studio recording of the Agape Christmas CD. All proceeds of this year’s CD Sing benefit the Agape Community Center, located on Milwaukee’s Northwest side.
Department Chair of Vocal Music at DSHA Rebekah Wickert helped get the girls involved in this project over three years ago. “Our girls really get excited about the recording studio experience, as you can imagine any teenage girl would. But most importantly, they are able to witness their gifts and talents being used to benefit others,” said Wickert.
In 2008 alone, 12,961 guests benefitted from over 1,000 hot meals put on the table by the Agape Community Center’s Community Meal Programs each month. Agape’s meal program has been in existence since 1986.
The Agape Christmas CDs are available for $15.00. For more information on how to purchase this CD please call Al Luzi at 414-464-4440, Ext. 230.
