Making a Miracle for Parker

Dec. 1, 2009 | 0 comments

Born on November 11, 2008, Parker was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure. Parker spent the first 128 days of his life in the NICU at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin where the doctors and nurses got him ready to go home. He was discharged from the NICU on March 19, 2009 and has been home since. He is currently on a 12 hour home dialysis treatment called peritoneal dialysis. This will continue to take the place of his kidney function until he has reached a size that is appropriate for transplant. Lindsay, Parker’s mom, has already been identified as a match for the transplant.

The Scaife’s represent a majority of Americans: They have health insurance through their employers; however, their financial ability to support Parker’s medical needs will soon be exceeded as a result of insurance life-time maximums, deductibles, co-pays, and expensive medications.

Area residents have joined forces to raise $50,000 to go towards the transplant cost through the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA). COTA is a national charity dedicated to helping children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. Over the past two decades, COTA has assisted more than 1,400 patients throughout the country, all of whom required a life-saving organ, bone marrow, cord blood or stem cell transplant.

Through COTA, every dollar we raise will go toward transplant-related expenses. For more information, please visit www.cota.org where you will be able to find out more about the Children’s Organ Transplant Association and kids like Parker.

We are looking for area businesses to help us raise funds for this worth while cause either through donations on the website (http://COTAforParkerS.com) or sponsorships and donations for upcoming events. If you are interested and would like more information please contact me and I would be more than happy to discuss upcoming opportunities.
