NEWS AND NOTES
Meeting notes: The kitty took in a bunch of happy dollars. Larry Schneider's daughters' basketball teams did well, and his older girl is in post-season competitions. Dick Pietsch once again was happy to be present, thanks to Andy Barnes. Dave Hoerig spent time with his daughter in Eau Claire because of suspected cardiac issue, but the diagnosis looks good. Dan Grunwaldt was pleased with Mini-Business World last week. Tom Schultz was pleased last week to talk to the Chicago Loop Automobile Society about the history of Road America. Jennifer Wakefield was feeling the after-glow of her trip to Mexico with Karen Oelerich. John Foley told us a be-grateful-for-what-we-have story about his colleague's daughters who have serious, unexpected medical problems, and John announced that his youngest son is becoming an entrepreneur. Gary Knisbeck toured the new hospital in Summit, courtesy of his daughter-in-law. Eli Potkanjak was sad about losing his election but happy about not having to spend the time required. Eli was delighted that one daughter was accepted into the UWM music school, and the other says she can graduate in three years. Jason was proud that his five-year-old bowled 110. Dave Eppelsheimer was still happy about trains to be manufactured in Milwaukee. Tom Anstett tossed in a buck to thank everyone who has worked so hard to organize the pancake breakfast.
We had committee meetings this week. Priority One reported that they are still working with Rosalie Manor to provide diapers, and they still can use as many children's books as we can find. Interclub is planning a trip to meet with Menomonee Falls at 6:00 PM on March 16 at The Trysting Place. Also look forward to the West Bend Kiwanis Club's Germanfest on March 30. Golf reminded everyone that the fund raising event is scheduled for June 23, a Wednesday, and that the price will remain the same. Community Services is looking forward to Tosa's Night Out, the first Tuesday in August. Sponsored Youth, in its Venturing Crew incarnation, has been busy, with both Bob Gross and Dan Grunwaldt getting first aid training, the Crew having met with Dick Bachman, Bob Gross having received the District Award of Merit, and the Crew being named Crew of the Year. The Key Clubs are also healthy. The WEHS club held elections for next year's officers, and they had a tie for treasurer. The WWHS club has 81 members signed up for the pancake breakfast.
Pancake breakfast: Our day starts on Sunday at 7:00 AM and will last until everything is cleaned up. Ken reminded everyone to wear our Kiwanis shirts. Deliver your door prizes to Ken or to the event early Sunday.
Nominating committee: Tom Schultz announced that it is time to assemble a slate of officers. Expect a call from Tom and his committee.
Program assignments: March 9 – John Foley. March 16 – Gary Knisbeck. March 23 – Scott Jensen. March 30 – Dan Grunwaldt. April 13 – Carl Smith.
Meetings: Tuesday noon, Mayfair Mall Community Room
