Callen to Participate in EPA Lead-Paint Rule Campaign

June 13, 2014

Callen Construction, Inc., a full service remodeling company serving southeastern Wisconsin since 1986, announced that as a certified lead-safe remodeling contractor, the company will participate in the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) "Look for the Logo" campaign that calls for remodelers certified under the agency's lead-paint rule to sport a label showing their status.

Launched in 2010, the lead-paint rule requires remodelers to engage in practices designed to minimize the potential spread of lead-paint dust in homes built before 1978—the year that lead-based paint was banned. To date, more than 135,000 renovation companies and roughly 493,000 individuals have been certified to engage in lead-safe practices when working on homes where the possibility of lead paint exists. Companies that fail to comply with paperwork and safety rules could face fines of up to $37,500 per day.

“Our company was one of the first in Wisconsin to achieve lead-safe certification in the spring of 2010, as making sure our customers are properly cared for is a main objective of all of our remodeling projects,” said Phil Callen, owner. “We currently have 13 staff members that are certified in lead-safe practices, and at least one of those employees will be on a jobsite at all times when we’re working on a home constructed before 1978. We are pleased to support and participate in the EPA’s campaign, allowing southeastern Wisconsin homeowners to know that when they contract with Callen, their project will be handled properly.”

The EPA’s marketing program will feature a series of full-, half-, and quarter-page public-service advertisements that declare, “Lead paint comes with a lifetime guarantee. It will do damage for generations.” with a tagline of “Protect Your Family. Look for the logo.”

The Home Exteriors by Callen showroom in Brookfield on 191st and Capitol Dr. has a wide assortment of products on display, including Infinity® Fiberglass replacement windows from Marvin, siding, windows, doors, and roofing, and Gutter Topper®. Callen’s Muskego showroom on 131st and Janesville Rd. contains a variety of samples, including full kitchen and bath displays featuring Kohler and Starmark Cabinetry products, countertops, as well as Infinity® Fiberglass replacement windows from Marvin.

Callen is a member of several home improvement and area associations, including the Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Council, National Kitchen & Bath Association, the Metropolitan Builders Association Remodelers Council, Better Business Bureau, Angie’s List, the Muskego Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce.
