Medical College of Wisconsin Names Neuroscience Center Advisory Board Members

Sept. 2, 2013

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) Neuroscience Center Advisory Board has added five community and business leaders to its membership. The goal of the board is to support basic and clinical research that will enhance understanding of brain function and improve the ability to treat neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders, and brain and spinal cord injury.

T. Michael Bolger, J.D., president emeritus of the Medical College, and James M. Holcomb, Breitenbach Institutional Advisory, are co-chairs of the board, which supports fundraising programs and builds community awareness of MCW’s work in the neurosciences.

The new members are:

*John Anderson, former Green Bay Packer, football coach, and broadcaster; he is currently a science teacher at Brookfield Academy in Brookfield, Wis. Anderson has a personal interest in traumatic brain injury as a result of his experience in professional football.

*John Bosbous was the treasurer of Bucyrus International until January 2012, and is now retired. One of his sons is a plastic surgeon who did his residency at MCW. Bosbous serves on several community charitable and not-for-profit boards.

*Al Costigan is the former president and CEO of Level Valley Creamery in West Bend, Wis. He has nearly 50 years experience in the food industry. Costigan has been an active supporter of the MACC Fund for more than 25 years.

*Mary Brennan Druml is a nurse with a rich history in patient care and outreach. She served as a clinical study coordinator at the Zablocki VA Medical Center for ten years, and was on the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Board for 17 years, including four years as president. Her father and brother both attended MCW.

*Melanie Roach-Bekos is the executive director of the ALS Association Wisconsin Chapter. Prior to joining ALS Association, she owned her own company in which she represented photographers and film houses.

The Neuroscience Research Center was founded in 2010 with the goal of enhancing neuroscience research at MCW Medical College. From clinicians to basic scientists, leading specialists are studying prevention and treatment of more than thirty neurological conditions including Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and other movement disorders, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), traumatic brain injury, memory loss and addiction.

MCW also is recognized as one of the world’s preeminent centers for brain imaging and brain research.
