BULLETIN
Looking forward to the meeting of February 26, 2013
Events
February 26 – Pancake breakfast preparation
February 19 – Our speaker will be Jean Bachhuber of Oak Park Place, who has a
lot of experience dealing with Alzheimer's disease.
NEWS AND NOTES
Meeting notes: Don Nordholm delivered his traditional birthday poetry. We're going to have to devote an entire program to it if Don adds more years. Dave Eppelsheimer started happy dollars with one to celebrate Metcalfe's contribution of a tailgating kit, which will be offered as a prize at the pancake breakfast. John Foley paid a dollar for his youngest grandson's birthday number two and for his youngest son's trip to Rome to work with the AS Roma soccer club on promotional material to be used in the USA. Carl Smith paid for a chance to announce the 4H golf outing on June 24. Bob Gross paid for a chance to thank Ken Snyder and WaterStone for a seat at the Scout leadership breakfast, where he heard Governor Walker speak. Gary Knisbeck was happily anticipating a trip to the circus with his three granddaughters.
Our speaker was Jean Bachuber, who is with Park Place (the new development near the police department on Walnut Street), who works with people with memory impairments, particularly Alzheimer's disease. Jean told us that 50 to 70% of dementias are Alzheimer's, which involves more than memory loss, and that the risk doubles each year of age after 65. She pointed out that Alzheimer's risk factors are the same as for heart disease and stroke, so exercise and diet can help.
Member news: Carl also had several reports about members. Carol Klose died this week. The funeral was Friday. Rob Ritter's Brother died last week. A memorial service is scheduled for March 9. Carl also talked to Gary Krueger, who is still in therapy and would appreciate calls and visits.
Interclubs: Tom Schultz announced that last week's interclub with the Elm Grove Golden K was successful, both in terms of fellowship and pancake tickets sold.
Pancake Breakfast: Coming up fast. Sunday, March 3, from 8 AM to 1 PM. The flyer is attached. Call Eli Potkonjak for tickets and Jason Gonwa for placemat advertising (j.gonwa@tcnb.com).
