David Pekel, Milwaukee/NARI Member, Earns Master Certified Remodeler Designation

Jan. 31, 2013

The Milwaukee Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), the area’s leading home improvement and remodeling industry resource for more than 51 years, announced that David Pekel of Wauwatosa, Wis., earned the Master Certified Remodeler (MCR) designation through NARI, the 44th person in the country to achieve the designation.

The MCR designation recognizes NARI Certified Remodelers (CRs) who have stood the test of time and continue to be successful in the remodeling industry. MCRs have demonstrated commitment to the remodeling industry through support of their local NARI chapter, NARI National, and/or their local community and have consistently upheld the “NARI Code of Ethics.”

In order for NARI to consider candidates for the MCR program, individuals must be a Certified Remodeler for a minimum of 10 consecutive years and hold at least one additional NARI certification (i.e. Universal Design Certified Professional – UDCP; Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler – CKBR).

Pekel, MCR, UDCP, CAPS, of Pekel Construction & Remodeling, Inc. in Wauwatosa, is owner of the full-service design/build company established in 1995 that specializes in historical renovations.

A member of Milwaukee/NARI since 1996, Pekel earned his NARI Certified Remodeler designation in 1997, and achieved Universal Design Certified Professional status earlier this year. In addition, he earned his Certified Aging in Place (CAPS) designation in 2008, the Certified Construction Professional (CCP) designation in 2008, and achieved Lead Safe Renovator status in 2009 through the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

Currently serving as the association’s First Vice President, Pekel has also served as Milwaukee/NARI Secretary, and as chairperson of the Marketing, Home Improvement Show, Fall Home & Remodeling Show, and Tour of Remodeled Homes committees. His company has also been an active participant and annual exhibitor in the association’s annual consumer shows, including sponsorship of event activities. He has been the recipient of a Milwaukee/NARI President’s Award five times, most recently in December 2012, an acknowledgement of his “extraordinary service and leadership to the association, “as well as receiving the association’s Professionalism, Meritorious Service, and Image Awards.

A recurring participant in Milwaukee/NARI’s Education Committee since 1998, Pekel has annually served as an instructor in the training classes that are offered to Milwaukee/NARI members that are pursuing NARI Certified Professional status. He has also assisted in the association’s local “membership recruitment blitz” meetings, speaking to prospective members and extolling the many benefits available to them as members of NARI. Pekel frequently serves as a panelist at Milwaukee/NARI consumer education seminars and he has been a regular guest on WISN-AM 1130 “Remodeling Show,” as well as a featured speaker at Milwaukee/NARI consumer shows.

A trusted resource for print and electronic media reporters, many of Pekel’s design projects have been featured in magazine and newspaper articles, and his completed projects have won many Wisconsin Remodeler of the Year Awards, a competition conducted annually by Milwaukee/NARI.

The Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Council was chartered in July 1961, as a Chapter of the National Home Improvement Council. In May of 1982, the National Home Improvement Council merged with the National Remodelers Association to form NARI – the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.

The Council’s goals of encouraging ethical conduct, professionalism, and sound business practices in the remodeling industry have led to the remodeling industry’s growth and made NARI a recognized authority in that industry. With over 800 members, the Milwaukee Chapter is the nation’s largest.
