Genomics and Personalized Medicine Conference Sponsored by CTSI

The Clinical and Translational Science Institute of Southeast Wisconsin presents a full day conference “Genomics & Personalized Medicine – Analysis and Clinical Implementation” Monday, December 17, at Marquette University’s Alumni Memorial Union. The conference will focus on personalized medicine and the use of DNA sequencing in healthcare.

Faculty from the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), Marquette University, MSOE and UW-Milwaukee will address topics including new sequencing technologies, data analysis, and implementing DNA sequencing in doctors’ offices.

The conference will feature a series of plenary session talks, breakout sessions and a lunch time presentation on science education and genomics.

The keynote speaker is Howard Jacob, Ph.D., Warren P. Knowles Professor of Genetics and Director of the Human and Molecular Genetics Center at MCW.

“Personalized medicine incorporates new tools and methodologies for patient care,” said Dr. Jacob. “How we can use the DNA sequence as a guide for proactive and preventive healthcare, rather than reactive? In some cases, sequencing can identify causes of rare disease and guide a treatment plan. This conference provides opportunities for collaboration with our CTSI partners as we develop a framework for personalized medicine in southeast Wisconsin and beyond.”
