Hailed by The Washington Post for their “excellent precision and musicality,” the two-time Grammy® award-winning Turtle Island Quartet has been a singular force in the creation of bold, new trends in chamber music for strings, fusing classical quartet esthetics with contemporary American musical styles. Now in its 27th year, the classical/jazz fusion trendsetting Quartet returns to the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts with two ground-breaking programs. On Friday, October 12 at 8 pm, TIQ will venture to Electric Ladyland, tackling works by legendary guitarist, songwriter and performer Jimi Hendrix, as well as other compositions reflective of and inspired by Hendrix’s music including TIQ founder David Balakrishnan’s new composition “Tree of Life.”
On Saturday, October 13 at 8 pm, the Quartet will be joined by the great jazz vocalist and Milwaukee native Tierney Sutton for Poets & Prayers—a program designed to answer the simple question: What inspires us? Featuring an incredible variety of work, from the moving traditional hymn “Wade in the Water,” to Joni Mitchell’s “All I Want,” to settings of John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme,” and words of Hafiz and Rumi- Poets & Prayers celebrates the muse, in all its forms.
Tickets for both performances are available at www.wilson-center.com, by calling 262-781-9520, or in person at the Wilson Center Box Office. The Wilson Center is located at 19805 W. Capitol Drive in Brookfield’s Mitchell Park, just west of Brookfield Road and Sendik’s Towne Centre.
