Bigler Sports “Ultimate Sports Spectacular!” set for Saturday May 12th

Feb. 15, 2012

American Cancer Society and Bi-County Special Olympics to Benefit

Bigler Sports is launching the first ever “Ultimate Sports Spectacular!” (U.S.S.), an all-day event for kids who want to test and exhibit their athletic skills and help raise money for cancer awareness and the Bi-County Special Olympics. Those wanting to participate can register now through May 9th. To enroll in the Bigler Sports U.S.S., visit www.biglersports.com.

The event is open to boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 16, and will take place at St. John's Northwestern Military Academy located in Delafield, Wisconsin on Saturday, May 12, from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm. Special Olympians of any age, can participate in the track, field and obstacle course event for free. A dinner with sports celebrity keynote speakers will follow. Speakers will be announced soon. There will also be a raffle and awards ceremony.

At U.S.S., kids will participate in baseball, basketball, football or fastpitch softball (three sports choice maximum). Bigler Sports’ coaches and staff will lead this fun competition with different types of challenges in each sport and announce a “winner” for different age brackets. Each participant will receive a t-shirt and 2 dinner tickets. The first 100 participants to register before April 30th, will receive 10 extra raffle tickets and 1 extra dinner ticket.

Jack Plemons of Bigler Sports said, "Bigler Sports is proud to host this event for the American Cancer Society, Bi-County Special Olympics and St John's Northwestern Military Academy. All of us share the goal of making a positive impact on peoples' lives."

Upon registering, each participant commits to raising $100 or more to support the fight against cancer. The American Cancer Society has created this goal for participants to allow youth athletes to have a meaningful impact on this fight through their Coaches vs. Cancer event. Funds raised at the “Ultimate Sports Spectacular” will help the American Cancer Society impact the lives of those touched by cancer within the community.

“U.S.S. is giving young athletes a unique opportunity to contribute to the Society’s mission of saving lives, by helping people stay well, by helping them get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back,” said Cody Allen, of the American Cancer Society. “Participants who give their time, energy and financial commitment to this exciting event will have a chance to showcase their talents and join the fight.”

In conjunction with U.S.S., Special Olympics track and field and obstacle course challenges will be part of the day, with more than 200 Special Olympics athletes expected to participate in competition. Rita Stelpflug of Bi-County Special Olympics added, “This is a terrific opportunity for all athletes to be challenged and have fun in this great event! Our Special Olympians welcome the opportunity to participate!”

St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy will provide entertainment during the lunch hour break with their pipe band and award winning Silver Rifles drill team.

There will be an opportunity for media interviews and pictures at the event.
