Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft on Friday.

Mixon, who broke several bones in a woman's face when he punched her in a 2014 incident at a sandwich shop near the school's campus, was taken with the No. 48 overall selection after the Bengals traded back in a deal with the Minnesota Vikings.

Mixon reached a settlement with Amelia Molitor last week. He was first charged with a misdemeanor, which was later dropped when he agreed to a plea deal that included community service and counseling. Video of the incident was not released until last December.

“I gave them all my word,” Mixon told USA TODAY Sports last week regarding his discussions with NFL teams about the incident. “I’ve had no other trouble. But I understand that my circumstances will be different than any other person on the team.”

Mixon joins a Cincinnati backfield that returns starter Jeremy Hill but lost Rex Burkhead to the New England Patriots in free agency.
