With just two strokes to spare, the Wauwatosa co-op girls golf team grabbed the fourth and final sectional spot at the Brookfield Central regional on Sept. 28 at Wanaki Golf Course in Menomonee Falls.

Brookfield Central won the regional with a 325, with Homestead finishing at a 326. DSHA took third at 362, while Wauwatosa edged Brookfield East, 390 to 392, to advance to sectionals.

Senior Katie Gastrau and freshman Rachel Kauflin again paced Wauwatosa.

Gastrau placed seventh among individuals with an 84, while Kauflin shot an 85 to take eighth.

Rounding out the Wauwatosa lineup were sophomore Allie Boeckmann (110), junior Alex Ramos (111) and freshman Chandler Yow (137).

The sectional was scheduled to be played Oct. 4 at Mee Kwon Park in Mequon. The top two teams and top three individuals from nonqualifying teams advance to the WIAA state meet at University Ridge in Madison on Oct. 10.

Greater Metro Conference tournament

Wauwatosa shot a 390 to come in sixth at the Greater Metro Conference tournament at Wanaki on Sept. 26.

Entering the 18-hole tournament in third place in the overall team standings, the sixth-place finish bumped Wauwatosa to fifth in the final standings.

"The girls played at or just a little above our season average," Wauwatosa coach John Ravenola said. "The other teams managed to play a little better and passed us in the final standings."

Kauflin led Wauwatosa at the conference tournament with an 85, and Gastrau shot an 88. Ramos carded a 102, Boeckmann ended with a 115 and Yow fired a 122.

The scores were low enough for Kauflin and Gastrau to finish fourth and fifth in the Greater Metro individual standings and earn first-team all-conference honors.
