Wauwatosa East's girls swimming and diving team used strength in numbers to pull out a dual-meet victory over rival Wauwatosa West.
The Red Raiders won four individual races and two relays en route to a 108-75 victory on Aug. 31.
"It was a team effort," Wauwatosa East girls swimming and diving coach Russ Weigel said. "We had some strong performances, and every athlete on the team made a contribution to the outcome."
Junior Elizabeth Peura won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:11.71 and took second in the 100 backstroke in 1:09.25. Junior Ingrid Meulemans took first in the 500 freestyle in 5:59.21 and placed second in the 200 freestyle in 2:15.18.
Freshman Anne Marie Tuffnell claimed the victory in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.54 and took second in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.52.
The Red Raiders took all 13 diving points with junior Sydney Netko (155.55), junior Glenna Petersen (141.70) and sophomore Amaya Ibanez-Baldor (116.50) placing first through third.
Sophomore Anna Busalacchi swam to a second-place finish in the 200 IM (2:34.24) and took third in the 100 butterfly (1:15.30). Senior Madeleine Jamieson was third in the 200 IM (2:38.41) and second in the 100 butterfly (1:12.88).
Wauwatosa East also received contributions from junior Anna Martin (third in 100 freestyle), senior Madeline Ladd (third in 500 freestyle), senior Zoe Hawthorne (second in 100 breaststroke) and sophomore Becca Lennie (third in 100 breaststroke).
The Red Raiders won the 200 freestyle relay with a team of Peura, Busalacchi, Martin and Tuffnell.
Senior Jess Wilson won two events for Wauwatosa West, winning the 100 freestyle in 57.45 and the 100 backstroke in 1:05.56.
The Trojans received wins from freshman Bridget Thuli in the 200 IM (2:30.24), freshman Bella Palazzari in the 100 butterfly (1:12.86) and junior Megan Krummel in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.48).
Thuli also placed second in the 500 freestyle (6:08.64), and Krummel was second in the 200 freestyle (2:12.95). Juniors Ashley Salomone and Emma Schmidt were second and third in the 50 freestyle.
Wilson, Thuli, Schmidt and Salomone teamed up to win the 200 medley relay.
