The Wauwatosa Swordfish swim club recently took part in a pair of meets, including their only outdoor meet of the season.

Held outdoors at Wirth Park on July 10, the Elmbrook Summer Sizzler featured over 350 athletes.

Charlie Anderson (age category 11-12) set a record in the 100-meter freestyle at 1:18.32, dropping almost 19 seconds of his time. Lauren Malinowski (11-12) beat her own 50-meter freestyle record by swimming a 30.24 and winning the event.

Nikki Cornwall cut 3.91 seconds off her 50-meter backstroke to come in at 58.57. Drew Miler dropped 7.5 seconds in his 50-meter butterfly, finishing at 46.66 and placing second. Alex Streit cut over 10 seconds from her 50-meter backstroke to finish at 53.97. Kyra Murdock dropped almost four seconds off her 100-meter freestyle for a time of 1:31.01

In the relays, the 13-year-old team of Ellie Cady, Bridget Thuli, Bella Minahan and Lauren Cortright took first place in the 400-meter freestyle relay. The 14-year-old team of Anne Marie Tuffnell, Emma Karras, Kyra Murdock and Olivia Pelzek took second in the 400-meter freestyle relay.

The 10-and-under boys consisting of Jack Hassley, Julian Cortright, Drew Miler and Michael Hughes placed second in the 200-meter freestyle relay. The 11- and 12-year-old girls team of Maddie A. Bartz, Nora Engbring, Maeve Haley and Lauren Malinowski placed third in their 200-meter freestyle relay.

The Swordfish also swam in the 2016 July open hosted by the Waukesha Express Swim Team on July 16.

Malinowski won the 50-meter butterfly in a time of 28.87, which qualifies her to swim at the Central Zone Championship Meet in Indianapolis in August. Malinowski had already qualified to swim the 50-yard freestyle. Her time in the 50-meter butterfly set a new team record. She also set team records in the 200-meter freestyle (2:09.25) and in the 200-meter individual medley (2:28.84). She placed second in both events.

Bartz (12) broke her own team record in the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 31.51 to win the event.

Stuart Doperalski (12) cut almost 9 seconds off his 50-meter butterfly to finish 11th with a time of 45.66. Peter Larson (13) took over 21 seconds off his 100-meter breast stroke, placing 14th with a time of 2:10.88.

Maddie Thompson (12) dropped just shy of 20 seconds off her 500-meter freestyle. She finished in 7:16.92, placing 13th. Bri Stevens got a personal best time in the 100-meter freestyle, dropping 2.5 seconds for a time of 1:06.95.
