For the first time in program history, the Wauwatosa boys lacrosse team has won a division title.
Wauwatosa went 7-0 in league play to win the Classic 8 Conference Black division and finished 11-5 overall. After defeating Wausau in the first round of the Wisconsin Lacrosse Federation state tournament, Wauwatosa fell to eventual state champion Kettle Moraine, 9-8.
Junior Kevin Maxey (Wauwatosa East) was named team MVP after scoring 34 goals with 42 assists and 26 ground balls.
Wauwatosa's first-team All Conference selections included Jake Cieszynski (Wauwatosa West), Cameron Rosario (West), Jory Vance (East) and Cody White (East).
Maxey and Brandon Biersack (East) were named second-team All Conference, while Tommy Calhoun (West), Roman Myse (East), Derrick Rischman (West) and Darion Todd (West) were named honorable mention All Conference.
Wauwatosa will look to build on its successful season in 2017, as it will have 16 seniors on the roster. The lone senior on this year's team was Biersack, who was given the Blazer Award for showing great leadership, a positive attitude and a great work ethic.
Thanks to his contributions to the game of lacrosse, Wauwatosa head coach Robin Buckley was recently voted into the Wisconsin Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Buckley has been involved in lacrosse in the Milwaukee area as a player, coach, referee, administrator, tournament director and retail shop owner for the past 20 years.
