The Wauwatosa East girls basketball team defeated West Allis Hale, 61-53, on Feb. 12 at home, to improve its record to 13-7, 6-7 in the Greater Metro Conference.

The win was the Red Raiders' second in a row as they are 9-3 in their last 12 games with a nonconference game at Waukesha North (0-20) and the GMC finale at West Allis Central (3-18, 0-13) on Friday, Feb. 19. That's two teams with a combined 3-38 record to close out the season.

Against Hale on Friday, the Red Raiders played two close halves, taking a 31-26 lead at intermission and then adding to it with a 30-27 second half in a competitive battle.

East freshman Brooklyn Blackburn led all scorers with 20 points, including eight of 11 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Elizabeth Bueckers and junior Johanna Taylor had 10 points each. Bueckers was 4-for-5 from the free-throw line.

Sam Schuh led Hale with 17 points, and Ashley Levack added 15.

East got to the free-throw line 28 times and converted 19, a .679 percentage, while Hale was 10-for-22 (.455).
