That winning streak that Wauwatosa East boys basketball team was looking for has finally come around — at least in Greater Metro Conference play.

The Red Raiders defeated Brookfield East, 61-55, on Jan. 22 for their third straight GMC win following victories over West Allis Hale and West Allis Central two weeks ago. Tosa East begins the week with a 4-3 record in conference play, with three tough games in a row on the schedule.

The Red Raiders (6-8) hosted Brookfield Central (6-2) on Tuesday, Jan. 26. They will host Sussex Hamilton (6-2) on Friday, Jan. 29, and then hit the road to face Marquette (6-1). Tosa East is the only team to defeat the Hilltoppers in conference play.

Despite an 0-7 conference record, the Spartans have talent, are big underneath and can shoot from the outside, and they showed that as they hung in there with coach Tim Arndorfer's crew. Tosa East held a 30-25 halftime lead, battled the entire second half and finished with a 1-point advantage (31-30).

The Spartans struggled from the free-throw line (6 of 14) but made up for it with seven 3-pointers. The Red Raiders hit 12 of 16 but didn't convert a 3-pointer.

Leading the way for Tosa East were senior forward Jai'Vionne Green with 17 points, senior Najee Stewart with 14 and junior guard Dane Mikkelson with 12.

Rounding out the scoring were senior wing Ty Ederesinghe, junior guard Blake Kratzer and senior forward Cal Rohde with 8, 7 and 4 points, respectively.

Leading Brookfield East was red-hot junior shooting guard Jake Graf with 20 points.

Senior guard Alex Plavsic added 8 points, and junior forward Nick Tennessen finished with 6.
