Anyone interested in seeing Wauwatosa basketball — lots of basketball — should find his or her way over to Wauwatosa East High School on Saturday, Jan. 23.
Make sure you get up early for some breakfast — and lots of coffee — because it will be another 'Teams of Tomorrow Day' where the local youngsters — from fifth grade through eighth grade, boys and girls — will line up to play beginning at 8:15 a.m.
Here is a schedule of Saturday's games, as Tosa West takes on Tosa East all day long.
The day's first game begins at 8:15 a.m. with the fifth-grade girls meeting, followed by a 9:15 a.m. game between the fifth-grade boys.
Then at 10:15 a.m., the sixth-grade girls hook up, and the sixth-grade boys follow at 11:15 a.m.
Somewhere in there, find some time to visit the concession stand, as the coffee and whatever breakfast you had will probably have worn off.
The afternoon games start at 12:15 p.m. when the seventh-grade girls meet, with the seventh-grade boys on deck at 1:15 p.m.
The final two youth games will see the eighth-grade girls battle at 2:15 p.m., with the boys to follow at 3:15 p.m.
This will be topped off by the Red Raiders girls hosting the Trojan girls in the first game of a prep doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. The boys game will follow at 7:30 p.m.
Since the Tosa schools are not in the same conference yet, this meeting is for basketball bragging rights for the kids.
Here is a quick look at the rivalry going back to the 2006-07 season. The the teams didn't meet the previous four years going back to the 2002-03 season, according to the Wisconsin Sports Network website, which only goes back 13 years.
In that span, the Tosa West girls have an 8-2 advantage — they met twice in 2008-09 — and have won eight games out of the last nine. In that span, the Red Raiders have won, 57-50, in 2013-14 and 48-37 in 2006-07. The average score in the Trojans' wins was 41-34.
On the boys side, once again going back to the 2002-03 season, according to the Wisconsin Sports Network website, which only goes back 13 years, the Red Raiders lead the series, 17-0. Four times they met twice in one season. The average score in those 17 Tosa East wins was 61-48.
