With the holidays behind us, the New Year has arrived. As 2016 helps 2015 out the door into retirement, I thought it would be a nice thing to pass out my personal wishes for my Wauwatosa prep teams for the current winter season.

Let's take an alphabetical look at each of the six winter teams I cover.

Boys Basketball

Wauwatosa East— Going into this week the Red Raiders boys are looking to get over the .500 mark and back into the Greater Metro Conference race. The lack of consistency from game-to-game is driving coach Tim Arndorferand East fans crazy. My Wish: Three items. A coupon for a hair transplant in case 'Arnie' pulls all of his out before the end of the season. A 'box of consistency' which the Red Raiders can immediately open and apply to their defense. And finally, a private detective to find a 'shooting eye,' which most of the team is badly in need of.

Wauwatosa West— One of the most athletic, talented teams I have seen this season, yet they sit at .500 overall and 1-3 in the Woodland West Division. My Wish: A 'can of confidence' for the Trojans, who don't seem to realize how much talent they have on this team. Alou Dillon (6-8), one of the best players in the area, Tyrone Powell(6-7), Javaree Jackson(6-5) and Trevor Powell(6-5) gives them excellent height, along with six other players 6-1 or taller. When you literally look down on most of your opponents in the game of basketball you have an advantage. Coach Chad Stelse'sguys need to believe this.

Girls Basketball

Wauwatosa East— Coach Rob Hamillhas one of the most talented and deep teams in quite a while. The Red Raiders have experience in Bailey Berlin, Maya Walls, Tori Loganand Chyna Sincere. Sammy Jensen(6-0) and Johanna Taylor(6-2) add tall twin posts. Add youngsters sophomore Elizabeth Bueckersand freshman Brooklyn Blackburnand this team could be one of Hamill's better ones. My Wish: For the Red Raiders to play in the GMC (0-4) as well as they do non-conference games (6-0).

Wauwatosa West— It will probably be a long year for the Trojan ladies, as they are 2-7 going into the New Year. Now look at their schedule — Pewaukee (7-3), New Berlin Eisenhower (6-2) and Pius XI (10-0). Yikes! My Wish: A big 'package of patience' to dole out to coach Ashley Imperiale and the girls. Continue to work hard, don't give up, and some good things will happen.

Boys Swimming and Diving Co-op— You can't talk about the Hurricanes without talking about the talented Danny Larson. There isn't a race this guy doesn't enjoy winning, no matter who the competition is. My Wish: May Larson be a three-year state qualifier and another top finisher at state. May Cal Harttand Avery Weishoffalso return to state and may they bring someone new with them.

Wrestling Co-op— Coach Kent Morinhas eight returning starters and plenty of talent to make a run at conference and state — as a team and with individuals. My Wish: A second-straight state title for the talented Justin Folley. A return to state for Zach Miller, who went as a freshman, but struggled with injuries for two years.

Summary

May most of my wishes come true in 2016.
