Cabrera takes forever to leave field after ejection

Andrew Joseph

There is just one exit from the field at the Nationals' spring training facility in Viera, Fla., and the Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera used that to his full advantage on Thursday.

Cabrera was annoyed after umpire Angel Hernandez failed to grant him time. That same at-bat, Cabrera ripped a single to right-center field. Before leaving the box, Cabrera gave Hernandez a stare. Cabrera didn't get a ejected yet, but he continued to talk to Hernandez from first base. Then, he got that ejection.

But Cabrera absolutely got the most of the situation.

With no third-base side exit, Cabrera retrieved his glove from the dugout and made the long walk to the far exit in right field. He could not have walked slower.

Hernandez had to watch helplessly as Cabrera took his time to leave the field. So much for those pace-of-play rules.
