Lightning leaves Milwaukee football schedule in tatters Friday

Swirling storm clouds throughout the Milwaukee area left a very weird schedule of partial games  still on the docket for the weekend.

While some games had no trouble completing Friday, most were impacted in some way, with some games able to finish after a mandatory 30-minute delay following each sighted lightning strike. Here's a look at some games that still have work to do:

  • Whitnall at West Allis Central, 6 p.m. Saturday (Central leads at half, 9-7)
  • Wisconsin Lutheran vs. Marquette, 6 p.m. Saturday at Whitnall (Marquette leads, 10-0, with 1:01 left in first half)
  • Menomonee Falls at Oak Creek, 1 p.m. Sunday (Oak Creek leads at half, 14-0)
  • Pewaukee at West Bend West, 4 p.m. Saturday (Pewaukee leads at half, 23-7)
  • Kettle Moraine at Oconomowoc, 5 p.m. Saturday (Lasers have 28-21 lead in early third quarter)
  • Watertown at Waukesha West, 7 p.m. Saturday (West leads at half, 14-7)
  • Racine St. Catherine's at Lake Country Lutheran, 7 p.m. Saturday (LCL leads in second quarter, 14-6)
  • Milwaukee King at Shorewood/Messmer, 1:30 p.m. Monday at Shorewood (King leads at half, 24-0)

Germantown and Kenosha Indian Trail were postponed with the Hawks leading, 21-7, at half. That game will not be continued. Hartford was also given a win after notching a 28-0 lead on Cedarburg at half before the game was postponed. Menomonee Falls must play on a Sunday because Saturday would mark too many consecutive contact days. It's a rare sight to see WIAA competition on a Sunday.
