Junior Red Raiders win state championship

Wauwatosa East's Junior Red Raiders fifth-grade boys basketball team won a state championship last weekend, downing Ashwaubenon, 44-42, at the Wisconsin State Championships in Appleton.

The Red Raiders had to get past Pewaukee in a semifinal contest to make it to the championship round, which was played at Appleton North High School.

In addition to the state title, the team also won the Badgerland State Championships played at Menomonee Falls High School on March 18-19. 

The fifth-grade Junior Red Raiders roster includes: Ryan Meehan, Andrew Laatsch, Jordon Lovelace, Max Comincioli, Jack McSorley, Daniel Kreklow, Dayveon Bush, Shaun Clark, Jakari Colbert, Jr. and Alex Williams.

The team is led by head coach Brad Comincioli and assistant coaches Brandon McSorely, Steve Kreklow and John Lovelace.

Wauwatosa Recreation Department crowns champion

Couri Insurance defeated SU Group/Jackson’s, 74-71, to win the Wauwatosa Recreation Department adult basketball league title March 22 at Whitman Middle School. In a game of runs, Couri got out to a quick lead in the first half and led by as many as 14 points.  SU Group/Jackson’s mounted a strong comeback and cut the lead to 1 at the half at 38-37. SU Group/Jackson’s came out firing in the second half and built an 8-point lead. Couri had a strong finish and led 74-71 with 4.6 seconds left. SU Group/Jackson got the ball down the court and had a good look for a 3-pointer. The ball bounced in and out and Couri held on to win the game.

The leading scorer for Couri Insurance was Tyler Tillema 22 points.  Other members of the winning Couri Insurance team are Quentin Barfield, Mo Cain, Khalif El-Amin, Chris Fehrenbach, Mike Hanley, Ryan Agnew and Ben Noffke.

Leading scorer for SU Group/Jackson’s was Travis Clark with 23.

Wauwatosa Women's Tennis Club seeking players

The Wauwatosa Women's Tennis Club has sponsored social tennis leagues for women for more than 40 years.

It has leagues for singles and doubles, mornings and evenings, and for many different levels of play. All the leagues are at Hart Park in Wauwatosa during the summer months.
