The Wauwatosa Swordfish Swimming Club competed in the 13 and Over State Championships from March 2-5 at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.

The relay team of Lauren Cortright (14 years old), Maddie A. Bartz (13), Bridget Thuli(14) and Lauren Malinowski (13) represented Tosa in five relay events. The relay team set new records for Tosa in all relay events as well as placing 16th in the 200 medley relay (1:54.30) and 12th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.05).

As an individual qualifier, Thuli competed in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley. She set a new team record in the 200 breaststroke (2:38.01) with 34th place and 39th in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.10).

Malinowski had a great meet, qualifying for the finals in five of her events. She placed 16th in both the 200 butterfly (2:18.49) and 200 freestyle (1:58.93).  In the 100 butterfly, Malinowski earned seventh place with a new team record of 59.65 seconds. She posted new team records and took home fifth-place-finishes in the 100 freestyle (53.13 seconds) and 50 freestyle (24.13 seconds).

Malinowski's times in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyle along with the 100 butterfly qualified her to compete at the 2017 USA Swimming Speedo Sectional Championships in Iowa City, Iowa on March 10 -11. She competed well among some of the top talent in the region.

The Swordfish have begun their long-course season and are looking forward to their first meet of the season hosted by Southwest Aquatic Team at Greenfield High School on April 28 and 29.
