Wauwatosa East girls basketball
Brooklyn Blackburn scored 40 points to lead Wauwatosa East's girls basketball team to a 76-57 win over Milwaukee Washington in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal game Feb. 24.
The sophomore forward poured in 26 of Tosa East's 32 first-half points, as the second-seeded Red Raiders led 32-26 over the seventh-seeded Purgolders at the break.
Tosa East pulled away in the second half, outscoring Washington, 44-31, en route to a 19-point win. The Red Raiders had 20 assists on 25 made field goals and went 23 of 35 from the free-throw line.
Blackburn also pulled down nine rebounds. Senior forward Johanna Taylor finished with 10 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, junior forward Elizabeth Bueckers added 8 points and seven rebounds, sophomore guard Sydney Halstead scored 7 points with four rebounds and three assists and junior guard Mariana Ibanez-Baldor dished out six assists.
Wauwatosa West girls basketball
Wauwatosa West's girls basketball team survived a scare from 11th-seeded Messmer to pull out a 53-49 victory Feb. 21 in an opening round WIAA Division 2 regional game.
With the win, the sixth-seeded Trojans advanced to the regional semifinal, where they fell, 56-40, to third-seeded Whitefish Bay.
Tosa West struggled to shoot against Messmer, making 27.9 percent (19-for-68) of its field-goal attempts and going 4-for-28 (14.3 percent) on 3-point tries.
Senior guard Cheri'a Adams led the Trojans with 13 points, five rebounds and six steals. Senior forward Dasia Davis scored 11 points with five rebounds and five assists, and sophomore guard Irene Phillips scored 9 points.
