Facing a Pius XI program struggling with numbers, Wauwatosa's wrestling team didn't face much of a challenge in a 78-6 victory over the Popes in a Woodland Conference dual meet on Jan. 11.

Only five matches were wrestled, as Wauwatosa picked up nine wins by forfeit.

Wauwatosa won by pin in four of the five matches, with Dayton Lewis earning a pin in 51 seconds, Lathan Hay pinning his opponent in 1 minute, 9 seconds, Griffin Granberry earning a fall in 4 minutes 55 seconds and Brian Mahan grabbing a pin in 3 minutes, 30 seconds.

"I was happy that the guys who had to wrestle came out aggressive," Wauwatosa coach Kent Morin said. "That had been one of our points of emphasis this week. Sometimes in these types of situations, it is hard to get fired up and keep your intensity. The guys did a nice job of getting up and taking care of controlling their matches."

Winning by forfeit for Wauwatosa were Andrew Radtke, Adrian Coppage, Cole Acker, Brandon Axelson, Michael Pook, Sam Barta, Jared Taylor, Lawrence Thomas and Austin Ertl.

Wauwatosa will face another program struggling with numbers in Cudahy/St.Francis/Saint Thomas More in a Woodland Conference dual meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Cudahy High School.

Wauwatosa will host the 53rd annual Tom Janseen Invitational at Wauwatosa West High School on Saturday, Jan. 21. Other participating teams include West Allis Hale, Wisconsin Lutheran, Badger, Manitowoc Lincoln and Portage. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
