Wauwatosa Swordfish swim club was back in the pool at Brookfield East High School for the Escape to Hawaii swim meet hosted by Elmbrook Swim Club on Jan. 7.

The team's young swimmers performed well beginning with Julian Cortright (9), who placed first in the 50 breaststroke with a state-qualifying swim. Additionally, he placed first in the 100 individual medley and third in both the 50 butterfly and 50 freestyle. Callie Carr (8) had a great day with first-place finishes in the 100 IM, 25 backstroke and 25 breaststroke. London Chase (9) placed third in the 100 freestyle and 50 breaststroke. Lillian Bartz (10) finished first in the 100 IM and second in the 50 backstroke.

Morgan Festerling (9) earned fourth in her 50 breaststroke event, and Michael Hughes (9) grabbed first in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 50 breaststroke. Ten-year-old Paige Seehawer competed hard in the 50 breaststroke, taking home first and second place in the 50 backstroke. Teammate Olivia Small (10) finished third in both the 100 IM and 50 backstroke, ending her day with a fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle.

In the 11- and 12-year-old age group, Nora Engbring (12) dominated with a win in the 100 butterfly, while Lauren Wunderlich (12) grabbed third place in the 200 IM. Teammate Maddie A. Bartz (12) brought home second in the 100 breaststroke.

Tosa's 13 and older athletes performed well in the 100 butterfly, with Lauren Cortright (14) grabbing fourth and Ellie Cady (14) taking third place. Cady also placed second in the 200 IM. In the 100 backstroke, Peter Larson (14) swam for a fourth-place finish, while Bridget Thuli (14) competed for second. Thuli continued on to win the 100 breaststroke event for her age group. Lauren Malinowski (13) set a new team record in the 100 butterfly, posting a time of 1:03.08. Malinowski finished her day with a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle and took second in the 200 IM.

Many notable performances resulting with season-best times rounded out the meet.  These swimmers include Samantha Bartelt (11) in the 100 backstroke, Nikki Cornwall (12) 100 butterfly, Lizzie Martinson (11) 100 backstroke, Liam McCarthy (11) 50 and 100 freestyle, Lilly Owley (10) 100 IM, Grace Ryun (13) 100 freestyle and Dylan Watters (11) 100 breaststroke.

The Tosa Swordfish will compete at Southeastern Aquatics' Penguin Challenge at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Jan. 21 and 22.
