Brookfield Hurricanes boys swimming

With Danny Larson and Cal Hartt each winning two events, the Wauwatosa Hurricanes boys swimming and diving team took third place at the Sean Zempel Memorial Invitational on Jan. 14 at Sheboygan South High School.

Green Bay United won the nine-team meet with 459.5 points, followed by Plymouth with 372 points and Wauwatosa with 342.5 points.

Larson won the 200-yard individual medley in 1 minute, 59.55 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 47.78 seconds. Hartt took home the title in the 50 freestyle in 22.19 seconds and in the 100 butterfly in 53.70 seconds.

Caleb Vollmers took first place in the 500 freestyle in 5 minutes, 14.01 seconds. The Hurricanes also won the 200 medley relay in 1 minute, 33.09 seconds.

Brookfield Stars boys hockey

Eric Sinson recorded a hat trick to lead the Brookfield Stars to a 5-2 victory over the Oshkosh Ice Hawks on Jan. 14.

With two goals in each of the first two periods, the Stars took a commanding 4-0 lead into the final period and led, 5-0, before Oshkosh scored twice in the final 12 minutes of the game.

Sinson scored off an assist from Joey Schindler to give Brookfield an early advantage and then assisted on a goal by Zach Davis with 5:40 left in the first period. Gabe Lehnerer made it 3-0 on a power-play goal off passes from Schindler and Ryan Roth before Sinson made it 4-0 with a shorthanded goal.

He completed his hat trick with 13:49 to play, scoring off Schindler's third assist of the game.

Emmett Peters earned the win by recording 13 saves on 15 shots.

Now 6-10-1 on the season, the Stars will play a pair of Classic 8 Conference games this week, facing state-ranked Waukesha at Nagawaukee Ice Arena at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, and Kenosha at the Ice Plex at 6:50 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21.

Brookfield Glaciers girls hockey

The Brookfield Glaciers co-op girls hockey team dropped a pair of games last week, falling 5-2 to the Fox Cities Stars on Jan. 13 and 6-2 to the Sun Prairie co-op on Jan. 14.

Casey Sandahl and Hadley Malcolmson recorded the goals for Brookfield against Fox Cities, while Malcolmson, Mikayla Pascavis and Caroline Forsmo had assists. Malcolmson and Sandhal each had a goal and an assist in the loss to Sun Prairie.

Now 4-11-0 overall, the Glaciers were scheduled to face the Stoughton Icebergs on Tuesday, Jan. 20, before closing the regular season with a game against the Badger Lightning at the Pierce Park Pavilion in Baraboo at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21.
