Wauwatosa East's girls basketball team left little doubt against Nicolet on Dec. 20, taking it to the winless Knights in a 70-26 nonconference victory.

The Red Raiders built a 41-12 lead at halftime and didn't look back, outscoring Nicolet, 29-14, in the second half to move to 6-2 on the season.

"It was a solid game," Tosa East coach Rob Hamill said. "We were able to take care of some of the problems that plagued us in our last game against (Sussex) Hamilton. Primarily, we got off to a fast start and took much better care of the ball with just six first-half turnovers."

Red Raider sophomore forward Brooklyn Blackburn finished with 20 points and 16 rebounds and has scored at least 18 points in four consecutive games. Senior forward Johanna Taylor and junior guard Molly Persin each added 12 points, and junior forward Anna Watry scored 7 points.

With Mariana Ibanez-Baldor unavailable due to an academic conflict, Persin filled in admirably at point guard. Persin not only ran the Tosa East offense, but she hit four of nine attempts from beyond the arc.

"Everyone was able to contribute, which was also very positive going into the holiday break," Hamill said.
