The Tosa Swordfish competed at the Menomonee Falls Swim Club Distance Classic Swim Meet on Dec. 3 and 4. The event took place at Menomonee Falls High School's 25-yard pool.
Audrey Sellinger (8) had a great meet with first-place finishes in the 100 freestyle, 100 individual medley, 25 freestyle and 50 breaststroke and second-place finishes in her 25 breaststroke and 50 butterfly events. Sellinger broke two team records with her 25 freestyle (16.66) and 100 freestyle (1:23.55) times.
Teammate Callie Carr (8) grabbed second place in her 100 IM and came home with first place in both the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly and contributed a new team record in the 50 butterfly (47.08).
An additional team record fell to Olivia Small (10) in her 50 butterfly event, as she took third with a time of 36.12. Small's successful day continued with first place in the 100 IM and two fourth-place finishes in 50 and 100 freestyles.
Anna Miler (10) earned second place in two of her events, the 100 breaststroke and 100 IM, and took fourth place in the 100 backstroke. Nine-year-old Meghan Cady won the 100 butterfly event, and nine-year-old London Chase secured fourth place in the 100 breaststroke.
The boys swam hard and performed well with Drew Miler (10) winning both his 100 IM and 50 freestyle events and obtaining third in the 50 butterfly. Michael Hughes (9) took home third in his 100 breaststroke event.
Nora Engbring (12) placed second in both the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle and put forth a state-qualifying effort in the 1,000 freestyle, setting a new team record (12:32.43). Peter Larson (14) grabbed second in the 200 freestyle and third in the 100 breaststroke, dropping over 17 seconds in his 200 backstroke for sixth place.
Maddie A. Bartz (12) contributed to Tosa's outstanding swims with second-place finishes in 50 and 100 freestyles, as well as taking third in the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Bella Palazzari (15) went the distance in her 1,000 freestyle, setting a new team record (12:35.81). Ellie Cady (14) swam the mile and took fourth.
More team records fell in this age group with Alexander Repikov's (11) efforts in the 50 butterfly (35.03) and 200 backstroke (2:59.53). Lauren Malinowski's (13) won the 100 freestyle in a new team record of 55.91. She also posted times of 1:03.77 in the 100 butterfly and 5:14.11 in the 400 IM. Malinowski's strong finishes resulted with second places in 100 butterfly, 400 IM and 200 freestyle; third places in the 100 backstroke and 1,650 freestyle; and fourth in both the 100 breaststroke and 200 butterfly.
Other notable performances included significant time improvements and personal-best performances from Jacquelyn Brown (9 years old, 100 IM), Nikki Cornwell (12, 100 freestyle), Alma Hogopian-Smith (10, 50 backstroke), Aiden Koops (11, 50 butterfly), Lily Owley (9, 100 freestyle) and Tim Streit (9, 100 freestyle).
