For a Wauwatosa East boys basketball team filled with newcomers, facing one of the state's top teams in the season opener was a difficult task.

The Red Raiders hung with Whitnall over the first half before the Falcons pulled away for an 83-52 victory on Nov. 26.

Whitnall, which is ranked No. 5 in the preseason Division 2 poll and coming off a WIAA state tournament berth, led 38-28 at halftime.

The Falcons then opened the second half on a 22-10 spurt to build a 60-38 lead.

Blake Kratzer led the Red Raiders with 10 points. Deshun Hunter had eight points, Dane Mikkelson scored six points and Jalen Holley and KeAndre Griffin each had five points.

University of Wisconsin commit Tyler Herro scored 22 points to pace the Falcons. Kevion Taylor added 20 points, Jonah Bzdawka had 16 points and Joey Tilley had 10 points.
