Waukesha Express Swim Team hosted the 2016 Express State/Non-State swim meet on Nov. 6. The Tosa Swordfish competed among 525 athletes.
The Tosa Swordfish swam great throughout the day. Olivia Small's state-qualifying time in the 50 butterfly (36.94) earned her third place, as well as taking third in the 50 breaststroke. New team records were set by Callie Carr (8) in the eight and under 50 butterfly event (47.65), and Maddie A. Bartz (12) took fourth and broke her record for the 100 backstroke (1:09.02). Lauren Malinowski (13) broke the five-year record in 200 individual medley (2:26.86) with a second-place finish, additionally setting a new record in the 50 free (26.82) and placing first in the 100 fly (1:05.26).
Nora Engbring (12) had a strong finish in her 100 breaststroke, taking first place (1:24.30). Drew Miler (10) competed and won the 50 butterfly (37.81) and grabbed third place in the 50 backstroke and fourth in the 100 IM. Taking second in the 200 freestyle, Lauren Malinowski swam a time of 2:07.35. Anna Miler (10) placed fourth in 50 backstroke (38.73), and Atilla Veyssal (17) finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.70).
Samantha Bartelt (11) cut 53 seconds from her 200 freestyle, Isabel Jensen (12) cut 18 seconds from her 100 butterfly, Josh Pantuso (11) dropped 19 seconds from his 100 breaststroke and Olivia Wagner (11) improved her 100 backstroke time by 12 seconds.
Tosa Swordfish will travel to Beloit on Nov. 19 and 20 to compete at Beloit Memorial High School. The 2016 Winter Classic swim meet will be hosted by the Stateline Aquatic Team.
