The Tosa Swordfish swimming club competed at the New Berlin Eisenhower High School's 25-yard pool for a two-day meet on Oct. 21 and 22.

The Swordfish had over 174 athletes participate and placed first in over 35 events.

Event winners included the following: Maddie A. Bartz (12 years old) had eight first-place finishes, Lauren Malinowski (13) took first in six events, Drew Miler (10) won five events and Lauren Cortright (13) and Sam Stolpe (14) each had three first-place finishes. Nora Engbring (12), Anna Miler (10), Atilla Veyssal (17) and Julian Cortright (9) each collected two event wins, while Ellie Cady (14), Lizzie Martinson (10) and Lauren Wunderlich (12) each won one event for the Swordfish.

Earning second or third place were Cady, London Chase (9), Julian Cortright, Lauren Cortright, Malinowski, Martinson, Drew Miler, Anna Miler, Engbring, Ava Gaspard (8), Maeve Haley (12), Aiden Koops (11), Stolpe and Wunderlich.

Tosa's relay teams also performed well. The girls 200 freestyle relay consisting of Bartz, Wunderlich, Engbring and Katherine Delcore (12) grabbed first place.  Also taking first was the girls medley relay with Bartz, Wunderlich, Delcore and Haley.

The team had numerous athletes dropping time for personal-best records. Malinowski set a new team record in the 100 butterfly (1:06.15), and Bartz broke the team's 200 backstroke record (2:34.83).  Additional personal-best performances include Audrey Sellinger (8), and Delcore dropped almost seven seconds in her 100 freestyle.  Engbring cut over 10 seconds in her 200 individual medley, Koops cut over 20 seconds from his 100 freestyle, Liam McCarthy (10) dropped almost 10 percent from his 50 backstroke and Stolpe cut nearly 20 seconds from his 200 freestyle.

The Tosa Swordfish compete next on Nov. 6 at Waukesha South High School in a meet hosted by Waukesha Express Swim Club for the 2016 Express State/Non-State meet.
