Very few boys volleyball teams entered the playoffs hotter than Wauwatosa East.

The seventh-ranked Red Raiders closed out the regular season with a 3-0 sweep of Woodland Conference champion New Berlin United on Oct. 25.

Wauwatosa East took the first set, 25-20, before cruising to a 25-16 win in the second set. A back-and-forth third set went to the Red Raiders, as they closed the match with a 28-26 win.

Senior Charlie Hutson finished the match with 15 kills, while senior Eric Winter had 12 kills and three blocks with a hitting percentage of .500. Senior Joe Marx had 33 assists, and senior Aaron Plaisted had eight kills, 12 digs and three blocks.

The Red Raiders, seeded second in their sectional, had a first-round bye in the WIAA tournament that began Oct. 28. Wauwatosa East was scheduled to host third-seeded Brookfield East in a sectional semifinal Tuesday, Nov. 1.

The winner of the match between the Red Raiders and Spartans will face the winner between top-seeded Wauwatosa West and fourth-seeded Pius XI in a sectional final at Wauwatosa East at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3.

Wauwatosa East, which finished the regular season at 25-10 overall, is aiming for its 10th trip to the WIAA state tournament in program history. The Red Raiders last played at state in 2014.
