Sen. Bernie Sanders announced what he calls the "first big event" to carry forward his political revolution beyond the presidential campaign.

In an email sent Thursday morning, the Vermont senator said he will address at 9 p.m. on Aug. 24 "our national network of volunteers live at more than 2,000 organizing meetings across the country."

Supporters of the Sanders group 'Our Revolution' are organizing watch parties around the country for the speech.

"At this meeting, I and others will lay out some of the next steps we can take as a movement to empower a wave of progressive candidates this November and win the major upcoming fights for the values we share," Sanders wrote in the email.

At the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia last month, Sanders formally ended his presidential bid and endorsed his one-time rival and the party's nominee, Hillary Clinton. In the weeks that followed, Sanders has sent out emails to raise money for Our Revolution and to support other candidates.
