We don't typically do Throwback Thursdays here at OP, but given the timing, we thought we'd make an exception.

Seven years ago, then-President Barack Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law on March 23, 2010.

"Today, I’m signing this reform bill into law on behalf of my mother, who argued with insurance companies even as she battled cancer in her final days," Obama said.

Then-Vice President Joe Biden proclaimed it a big (insert expletive here) deal — near microphones, of course.

Democrats proclaimed victory.

"Health insurance reform will stand alongside Social Security and Medicare in the annals of American history," then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said. "But our fight is not over yet."

And Republicans bemoaned what was happening.

"This is a somber day for the American people," then-House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said. "By signing this bill, President Obama is abandoning our founding principle that government governs best when it governs closest to the people."

The House on Thursday is scheduled to vote on legislation that would replace Obama's signature law.
