A visual timeline of Trump's inauguration

6: a.m.: Entrances to the mall open.

8:30 a.m.: Trump, Pence, their Cabinet nominees and their families and friends attend a church service at St. John's Episcopal Church, known as "the church of the presidents" because every president since James Madison has attended services there.

9:30 a.m.: Trump, Pence and their families attend a tea hosted by President and Mrs. Obama on the South Portico of the White House.

10 a.m.: President Obama and Vice President Biden escort their successors to the Capitol for the inauguration.


11 a.m.: The inauguration program begins.

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority reports lighter ridership compared the previous inaugurations.

Metro ridership was down on inauguration day...

...as was the number of attendees. 

Noon: Mike Pence was sworn in as vice president, followed by Trump's oath of office as president. Trump later delivered his inaugural address.

How Trump's speech was received. 

1 p.m.: Trump, Pence and their wives attend a Joint Congressional Inaugural Committee luncheon at the Capitol.

Trump begins with call to kill climate action plan

2 p.m.:Police in riot gear swarm near Trump parade route as protests turn violent

2:30 p.m.: Trump and Pence attend a military review at the east front of the Capitol, and then parade down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House.

3 p.m.: Trump and Pence attend the inaugural parade in stands just outside of the White House. Afterward, he will work in the White House, where he may sign some executive orders.

9:35 p.m.: President Trump and first lady Melania were introduced at the Liberty and Freedom Ball at the Washington Convention Center.

Saturday

10 a.m.: Trump, Pence and their families will attend the National Prayer Service at the Washington National Cathedral.
