SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — A man bit a police officer and interfered with emergency medical services at a nightclub Tuesday.

Emergency medical staff was responding to The District nightclub to help a woman who hit her head on the ground, said Sgt. Paul Creviston of the Sioux Falls Police Department. The woman had been released from the hospital as of Wednesday morning.

As medical technicians tried to help the woman at around at 7:40 p.m. MT, an aggressive man interfered, Creviston said.

Police tried to separate the man from medical staff and the man punched, kicked and bit an officer, leaving bite marks on the officer's upper thigh and breaking the skin. The officer, whose name was not released, went to the hospital with minor injuries.

John Hogan III, 25, of Brookings, S.D., was arrested for aggravated assault against a police officer, resisting arrest and obstruction of law enforcement. And he'll remain in jail until a judge lifts a decision to offer no bond.

"(Getting bit) happens more than we like to admit," Creviston said. "It was probably the first thing that presented itself to the subject, so he took a chomp."
