Save your appetites because Wauwatosa’s Food Truck Days are back for a second year.
Food Truck Days will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month through August — beginning this Thursday, April 20 — in the southwest portion of City Hall’s parking lot.
Diners can choose from an array of treats from area food trucks, and participate in a few games or just relax on the picnic tables. Food trucks scheduled for April 20 are Meat on the Street, Iron Grate BBQ, Falafel Guys, Stuffed Pierogi and Happy Dough Lucky.
“It’s kind of an area for people to rest and enjoy themselves while they’re going to the food trucks,” Tony Brown, assistant administrator with the city of Wauwatosa said of the event.
Between five and seven food trucks will be present for each event.
Brown said the idea came about partly as a way to feed hungry city hall employees, but also as a way to execute the city’s vision for public spaces, as outlined in their strategic plan.
“This is kind of a small way that we are trying to activate public property for citizens to utilize for different things,” said Brown.
Last year’s events drew around 300 people on the first day, with one truck even running out of food. Throughout the summer, people of all ages visited to enjoy the food, games and relaxation.
Brown said if this year’s reception is as big as last year’s, the city may consider adding more food truck days to next year’s calendar. He notes that the city does not pay the trucks to be there; rather, proceeds are made by their sales.
Only a few spots are still available for food trucks to sign up to be a vendor. For more information, contact the administration office at 414-479-8915.
