Starting this August, Christ King School, 2646 N. Swan Blvd., Wauwatosa, will offer 3-year-old kindergarten as well as an extended care after-school program.

Principal Kevin Hughes said implementing the programs is partly the result of listening to requests from families, including a continued request for a K3 since he began at the school almost four years ago. It also comes as another effort at enrollment management for the school.

“Now, starting at a younger age, we can provide a safe, Catholic environment for children starting at three years old,” says Hughes.

Additionally, he said Catholic education is a "vital gift to the world and the need for intentional disciples in today’s society is needed more than ever.”

“To offer this more broadly to families starting at a younger age helps advance our parish mission: to proclaim Christ and make disciples through the sacramental life of the Church,” Hughes said.

Also new for the 2017-18 school year will be an extended after-school care program. The program, starting in August, will be offered for both full-day and half-day K3 students from 3 to 6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and from 2 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Extended care coverage may be offered on days when students are not in school. The cost will be $15 per day per child.

Hughes added that the school is actively pursuing highly qualified people to join their faculty and staff. Some positions have recently been filled, and an announcement of those new hires will be made soon.

Christ King School welcomes prospective families to visit any time of year, he said.

“And, as not just the principal, but also wearing the hat of dad to two Hughes boys enrolled at Christ King School next year, I can honestly say that amazing moments of academic and faith discovery and learning happen every day at Christ King School,” Hughes said.
