What’s going on with the building that used to be the Heart Hospital across from the zoo?
Issue: Our reader wants to know about the original Wisconsin Heart Hospital building that closed in mid-July of last year.
Status: The building’s future is being discussed by Ascension Wisconsin, the new parent company of the facility formerly owned by Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare. Wheaton joined Ascension in February.
“We continue to maintain equipment in the hospital and ready the space for continued use,” said Ascension’s South Region President Travis Andersen in a prepared statement. “We intend to keep the building and are examining our options so that we can best meet the needs of the Tosa community.”
Andersen noted the facility’s convenient location at 10000 W. Bluemound Road allows Ascension to fulfill its mission “to deliver high quality, cost-effective care as close to our patients as possible.”
According to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report last June, The Wisconsin Heart Hospital was built in 2006 and was initially owned 51 percent by physicians and other investors and eventually bought out by Wheaton. Over time, the facility was rebranded as a spine and orthopedic hospital.
