Why are all those cars parked at the entrance to Hart Park?
Issue: A reader posed that question, noting that it was not a complaint, she just wanted to know why the area has become a parking lot.
“Just wonder who parks there and why,” she wrote.
Status: Those vehicles lined up just south of State Street and the railroad tracks and along both sides of 72nd Street as it enters the park primarily belong to construction workers from a couple of different projects, said Public Works Director Dave Simpson.
“We have construction crews from the city and from the State Street Station project,” Simpson said. “Those contractors previously asked where they could park. This gives them a regular place and keeps those vehicles out of the nearby neighborhoods.”
Simpson said parking is mostly limited to normal business hours. He also noted that some vehicles park regularly along and just south of the tracks on Hart Park Lane. Those vehicle owners obtain overnight parking permits.
