What is happening with the public restroom on Menomonee River Parkway just south of Hartung Park?
Issue: A reader asked if there are plans to rehab and reopen the restroom facility that is located along the path on the west side of the parkway.
Status: County officials said the restroom facility soon will be rehabbed and open. Guy Smith, chief of operations for Milwaukee County Parks, wrote the following response to the question:
“Our plan for 2017 is to have the restrooms open on a more consistent basis, especially with the Parkway and Oak Leaf Trail upgrades. The building will be open from Memorial Day until Labor Day. The hours may vary a little bit, but will be approximately 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
“We unfortunately had some vandalism to the glass block windows, hence why they are boarded up. Our Skilled Trades staff is looking into window options. It is my understanding that our trades also made some well upgrades at the facility”
Smith said his staff estimates the building was built during the 1930s.
