Wauwatosa police have reported that a truck carrying appliances struck the railroad bridge on Swan Boulevard near Menomonee River Parkway the morning of July 1.
According to police, the truck was traveling southbound when it approached the bridge. The driver noticed the clearance limit sign, but it was too late. Fearing he would cause a crash for the driver traveling behind him, the driver chose not step on his brakes before he hit the bridge, police said.
The top and back of the truck were ripped off during the incident, Public Information Officer Lt. Brian Zalewski said. The driver's employer, consumer electronics and home appliances retailer HH Gregg, rented the truck, which had an 'Enterprise' logo on its side.
A tow truck was called to the scene to assist around 10:30 a.m. July 1. The bridge was inspected following the incident and no issues were found.
No one was injured.
The bridge has been the site of similar incidents over the years; a tractor trailer collided with the bridge in March 2015, causing the top to be peeled back.
