Sushi and Asian fusion restaurant Screaming Tuna has pulled out of plans to open at 7954 Harwood Ave. in Wauwatosa, and plans to open a Stone Creek Coffee shop in the same building appear to be falling apart, too.
Jeff Bronstad of Screaming Tuna confirmed the restaurant has backed out of plans to open in Wauwatosa, although he did not say why. The restaurant's original location is at 106 W. Seeboth St. in Milwaukee. The project received city approval in January.
Stone Creek Coffee planned to open its second Wauwatosa location by fall 2016 in the same building, but the director of teams and development for the company, Drew Pond, said there's only 'a small chance' the coffee shop will still open at that location as it 'doesn't look like it's going to happen on (the developer's) end.'
Jason Luther, president of the real estate developer and consultant Luther Group of Elm Grove did not return phone calls seeking comment.
Stone Creek planned to sell an assortment of coffee-based beverages and teas prepared to order. Stone Creek Coffee also operates at 8340 W. Bluemound Road.
Pond said Stone Creek Coffee remains committed to searching out additional locations.
'We'd still like to secure another location in Wauwatosa and spread our coffee across the greater Milwaukee area,' he said. 'We're definitely still looking for new opportunities.'
City planner Tamara Szudy said she was not aware of Screaming Tuna dropping its plans to open at the Harwood site.
