City will hold Memorial Day ceremony Monday

Wauwatosa will mark Memorial Day with a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at Longfellow Middle School, 7600 W. North Ave.

The one-hour ceremony will feature Dennis Konkel, a longtime Wauwatosa resident, a captain with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's training division and a member of Wisconsin Army National Guard. He holds the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Army National Guard and is a veteran of two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The Wauwatosa Community Band also will perform.

Volunteers sought for nursing home advocacy

The State of Wisconsin Board on Aging and the Long Term Volunteer Ombudsman program seeks individuals who would like to serve one or two hours per week as advocates for residents in Milwaukee County nursing homes.

The board's mission is to advocate for the interests of the state's long-term care consumers, to inform those consumers of their rights and to educate the public at large about health care systems and long-term care.

To learn more about this opportunity, call (800) 815-0015 or visit longtermcare.wi.gov.
