Is there a rumor you've heard that you would like to track down? Is there something in the city — like playground equipment or a pothole — that needs to be fixed? Rick Romano answers some of the mysteries of life in Wauwatosa and helps solve everyday problems.

What construction is going on at the Hoyt Park bridge?

Issue:A reader asked that question after seeing the bridge closed.

'What is being done at the pedestrian bridge that crosses over from Hoyt Park to the pool/beer garden and playground and how long will the bridge be out?'

Status:The bridge is in need of some important refurbishing, said Karl Stave, the project manager for Milwaukee County Parks. The work involves structural reinforcement as well as some masonry repair on the part this is visible to the public.

The work started about a week ago and is scheduled to be completed in mid-May. It is a planned capital expenditure by Milwaukee County. Kit Slawski, executive director of Friends of Hoyt Park & Pool, said she is hopeful the project will be completed before the beer garden opens on May 18.

'The work involves the structural steel underneath that was quite corroded,' Stave said. The two large stone towers above the bridge 'will have the top replaced and then, 'selectively, some stones will be replaced and epoxied,' he said.

New Berlin-based NuGen Johnson won the construction bid that was advertised in November 2015.
