It could take more time than anticipated for a Benji's Deli to move into Wauwatosa.

The restaurant announced on its Facebook page last week it canceled its plans to open shop in East Tosa.

Benji's Deli planned to move into the space next to Camp Bar, at 6600 W. North Ave., acquiring the space from the Natural Health Center, a chiropractic, nutritional counseling and health food store.

'We are disappointed to announce that we have to cancel our new location in East Tosa,' the Facebook post said. 'Thanks to the ownership and staff at Camp Bar for their warm welcome and support and to the residents of Wauwatosa for their excitement and hospitality.'

The Facebook post said the restaurant remains hopeful of opening a location in Wauwatosa in the future.

'We're going to take a short break and hopefully resume our search for a new location in a few months,' Benji's owner Michael Price said in an email.

Price said bringing the building up to restaurant standards was too much work. He did not give any further information in the email.

Price told NOW Newspapers last year that he and his brother, Chris Price, had hoped to find a location in Wauwatosa, thinking it would have a strong customer base. The brothers own the restaurant together.

Benji's Deli has locations in Shorewood, 4156 N. Oakland Ave, — which opened in 1963 — and in Fox Point, 8683 N. Port Washington Road.
