A new sushi restaurant received the final green light from the city of Wauwatosa Jan. 19 after breezing through the approval process.

Screaming Tuna will soon open at the northeast corner of Glenview and Harwood avenues and plans to serve a selection of sushi, appetizers, hot entrées, craft cocktails, sake, wine and beer in a full-service setting, according to city documents.

The business concept would emulate the menu, drinks, service and ambience of the restaurant's Milwaukee location, 106 W. Seeboth St., which opened in March 2011.

Stone Creek Coffee was recently approved by the city's plan commission to open at the same location, 7954 Harwood Ave. Screaming Tuna would use the remainder of the building's first floor, or approximately 3,000 square feet, and would offer a seasonal outdoor seating area at the front of the building, according to city documents.

The building would be remodeled, including the addition of a second floor.

Hours of operation for the restaurant would be from 10 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, with outdoor dining to close at 11 p.m. daily.

The restaurant would seat approximately 100 people, with an additional 50 seasonal patio seats.

The new restaurant would create 20 to 22 full-time positions comprised of managers, bar staff, servers, hosts, busers, kitchen chefs, sushi chefs and dishwashers.

As part of the approval, the restaurant would be required to install a 6-foot wooden fence on the east property line and vegetation to screen the northwest side.

The approval also came with the condition that a right-in and right-out only drive be implemented at the Harwood entrance.
