Local church City of Light hopes to bring awareness to drug addiction by hosting a community scavenger hunt Saturday, July 22 in Wauwatosa.
"As we talked through how we could best serve our community we wanted to embrace issues for families that need help," City of Light Church Lead Pastor Brian McKee said. "We want to be a church that brings multi-ethnicities together to see how we can make a positive change in our city."
The hunt will have participants looking for clues across Wauwatosa, answering trivia questions and seeing important landmarks — all while getting exercise and supporting addiction awareness.
The event will be held in the river picnic area of Hart Park, 7300 Chestnut St., beginning at noon. There will also be church officials and leaders in the community speaking prior to the start of the hunt.
"The winning team will receive a prize for racking up the most points," a promotional piece from the City of Light said. "All you need is a smartphone and a nose for clues."
City of Light is partnering with the Mothers of Addicts support group and other addiction recovery groups to bring awareness to the opioid addiction epidemic and ways to help families.
A portion of ticket proceeds will go to addiction recovery programs in Milwaukee.
The church holds its services in the AMC theater in Mayfair Mall each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and invites anyone to attend.
"Folks come in as strangers and leave as friends," McKee said of the services. "We are positioning ourselves in a way that people can be comfortable in a multi-ethnic environment."
The church has been in existence for 2 ½ years and first began holding services in September 2016.
